Sheriff J.B. Smith is a businessman, Former Sheriff, and rancher. He's been an elected Sheriff since 1976. When he's not managing one of the largest jails in the south, he's entertaining large audiences at events and conferences with his witty southern humor and stories. J.B. manages a big business which also happens to be one of the largest jails in the south, housing over 1000 prisoners, a department of over 355 personnel, has over 100 vehicles and feeds more than 3,000 meals a day, while overseeing an annual budget of over $27 million. He is also a licensed auctioneer.
Community Leader
Recently presented with the first ever “Excellence in Community Service” award by the National Chapter of The Daughters of the American Revolution. He serves on II Boards of Directors, chairman of 5 and was co-founder of a Center which has become a safe haven for abused women and children.
Rancher
On his ranch, J.B. has raised registered Longhorn cattle. His menagerie contains over 15 horses, wild hogs, ticks, red bugs, armadillos and fire ants. Sheriff J.B. Smith has been continuously elected since 1976. Sheriff Smith holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Texas and is a graduate of the National F.B.I. Academy. He is a Licensed Forensic Hypnotist. He is past President of the Sheriffs Association, 2002-2003.
In the Spotlight
J.B. has appeared on CBS’s The Early Show with Harry Smith and NBC’s Today with Matt Lauer. For over 2 years he was a regular on a nationally broadcast program on the Law Enforcement Television Network entitled Corrections Digest. He has appeared on-strage twice at the Nugget in Reno, Nevada, with Zig Ziglar and other nationally known speakers, and has also appeared at Diamond Jacks in Bossier, Louisiana.
